Hi unfortunately carpet is so expensive to purchase and just to get the club up and running has cost us all an arm and a leg.

To carpet the hall we have would cost about £800 if you have that to spare we would willingly use it but unfortunately probably not and we will have to wait until we have bought the more important things like transponders and lap counters.

Sorry for this but its all down to money in the end. Jane (venue leader) Very Happy

There are plenty of venues that run on carpet within the London and Essex area like, Southend, Brentwood, Basildon, Woodson Park and Crystal Palace to name a few. But there are only three venues that i know of that run on polished floor us (NRCCV), Roneo and Seven Oaks. By runing on carpet at our venue you wouldnt gain anything, because the grip levels are high anyway and tyre wear is already less than at any other venue i know. Carpet tracks are realy meant for big areas like the venues i stated at the start, maybe if the venue eventualy makes enough to move to a big hall then carpet might be the way to go, but for now just enjoy a different surface it makes you a more rounded driver the more surfaces you run on the better you get, ask any top driver. I have run on carpet, polished tarmac i've done offroad and all of them set you new tasks and should be embraced not moaned about. Well that it for my rant. Hope thats cleared some things up for you guys. (Scott) Smile

JUST TO GET THINGS STRAIGHT
CARPET COST £250 PER ROLL 30M x 2M
FOR MOST CLUBS INCLUDING OURS YOU WOULD NEED 2 ROLLS THATS £500

SO FAR THE LAPS AT NRCCV HAVE BEEN BETWEEN 32 - 34 LAPS.
IF YOU PUT CARPET DOWN YOU WOULD BE DOING ABOUT 40 LAPS + BECAUSE OF THE EXTRA GRIP YOU WOULD HAVE. NOT A PROBLEM FOR ME BUT WOULD CAUSE MAJOR PROBLEMS FOR MOST RACERS. E.G. BEING LAPPED OR LAPPING OTHERS WOULD BE A LOT HARDER. PLUS YOU WOULD BREAK LOTS OF PARTS ON YOUR CARS.

SO UNTIL WE HAVE GOT ENOUGH MONEY FOR TRANSPONDERS AND EVERYONE HAS BEEN PAID OFF WE WILL REMAIN WERE WE ARE.
HOPEFULLY IN THE FUTURE WE CAN MOVE TO A HALL 3 TIMES THE SIZE ( I KNOW WHERE THERES ONE NOT TO FAR AWAY BUT COSTS TWICE AS MUCH) WE WILL THEN HOPEFULLY RACE EVERY WEEK ON CARPET.
THIS IS ALL A LONG WAY DOWN THE LINE 6 MONTHS + SO KEEP THE FAITH AND PREPAIR YOURSELVES BY LEARNING HOW TO DRIVE THE HARD WAY.
THE CARPET COMETH BEWARE WHAT YOU WISH FOR IT MIGHT COME TRUE.

Fair enough know it all Embarassed But the rest of the statement is true. To become a good driver you must be able to race on any surface not just the easy surfaces like carpet. Wink
